welcome to the folly farm
A historic waterfront farm being restored with care—for the land, for the future, and for those who gather here.
A historic waterfront farm being restored with care—for the land, for the future, and for those who gather here.
The Folly Farm is a historic waterfront property on Virginia’s Eastern Shore—a place we’re working to restore, protect, and share. Our long-term goal is to cultivate a working farm and gathering space rooted in regeneration, community, and care for the land. We are just getting started. But here’s what we’re building toward:
At its heart, Folly Farm is about slowing down, paying attention, and taking care—of the land, of each other, and of the future we’re trying to grow.
Set on over 200 acres of forest, farmland, and shoreline, The Folly Farm is a historic waterfront estate on Virginia’s Eastern Shore—a quiet, largely untouched stretch of land between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
Originally settled nearly three centuries ago, the property once served as the port of entry to Accomack County and the gateway to the Harbour of Accomac. Several original outbuildings—including the dovecote and ice house—are listed in the Library of Congress, and the farmhouse, built in 1749, still stands today.
Now protected under a Conservation Easement, The Folly Farm is part of a broader landscape shaped by tides, migratory birds, and generations of coastal living. We’re working to restore and reimagine the land as a place where regenerative farming, community gatherings, and deep connection to nature can thrive.
While the farm feels tucked away—surrounded by water, down a quiet mile-long lane—we’re just minutes from the town of Onancock and within easy reach of Chincoteague to the north and Cape Charles to the south. This is a place with deep roots and wide horizons.
